Shane Lowrie (Amateur) wins 3 Irish Open in dramatic fashion

After a dramatic playoff win over England’s Robert Rock, Amateur Shane Lowry won the 3 Irish Open at  Baltray Golf Club in County Louth this afternoon.
The 22 year old saw off a field including Current British Open champion Padraig Harrington with a display of immense skill and nerve to win his first professional tournament.

The outcome could have been very different, and so much less dramatic if Lowry had holed a four-foot putt on the 18th hole to win the tournament. He missed the short putt and the tournament went into a playoff with England’s Robert Rock. The playoff took 3 more attempts at the 18th hole to separate the professional and the amateur but it was the 22 year old Lowrie that won out.

The win guarantees him 2 years on the European tour, should he decide to turn professional something most commentators feel is imminent following today’s victory.
