Kinsale duo win Young scientist Award

 Two students from Kinsale have won this year’s BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition at the RDS in Dublin.

John O’Callaghan, 14, and  Liam McCarthy, 13, both Second year students, won with a project entitled “The Development of a Convenient Test Method for Somatic Cell Count and its Importance in Milk Production” which utilsed Fairy liquid to identify infection levels in cows. 

BT Young Scientist & Technology ExhibitionThey pair were presented with a cheque for €5,000 and a Waterford Crystal trophy by Taoiseach Brian Cowen and will now go on to represent Ireland at the 21st European Union Contest for Young Scientists in Paris in September.
