Irish Town Celebrates rise to WhiteHouse

While much has been made of Barack Obama being the first African American to win a US presidential race, The Irish town of Moneygall in County Offaly is also celebrating the fact that he is the first African-Irish-American to achieve such a victory.
The current Taoiseach (Prime Minister of Ireland) also has county Offaly roots and has extended an invitation to Mr Obama to visit his Irish ancestral home during his presidency.

Research has traced Mr Obama’s maternal family tree back to his great-great-great-great grandfather Joseph F Kearney, a well-to-do shoemaker from Moneygall, Co Offaly, who lived from 1794 to 1861.
