– ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
Following FIFA’s decision on August 19th  to play the Ireland v Georgia world cup qualifier at a neutral venue, the Georgian Football federation (GFF) has announced that the European Group Eight qualifier will be played in the German city of Karlsruhe.

Last week, world soccer’s governing body FIFA announced that the game would be moved from Tbilisi due to the tensions in Georgia following the military invasion by Russian forces as a result of a conflict over the breakaway province of South Ossetia.

FIFA set the GFF a deadline of August 26th to nominate a venue.

Georgian striker Alexandre Iashvili played for Karlsruhe SC in the German Bundesliga and Georgians hope this will provide much-needed support from neutral German fans to replace the home advantage which they have forfeited.
After the game against Ireland, Georgia travel to Udine, Italy, to take on the world champions in their next qualifier on Sept. 10th.

Getting to Karlsruhe

The change of venue results in a much shorter journey for Irish fans and as a result means more will travel to support the boysin Green.
Ryanair operate direct flights from Dublin Airport to Karlsruhe and also to Frankfurt-Hahn, another ryanair hub, which is just one hour away by high speed ICE train. Frankfurt Hahn is also served from Kerry Airport.
